Reversion pruning

Reversion pruning

Cut out unwanted plain green foliage

■ Before the prime growing season starts, cut out any shoots on variegated plants where the leaves have returned to solid green. This is known as ‘reversion', and is particularly common in Euonymous and Golden Privet.

■ Plants change back because purely green leaves are stronger and more efficient at harnessing the sun's energy than multicoloured ones.

■ Control the problem by removing the shoots as soon as you see them.
